The inaugural Khyber Polo Festival 2026 came to a vibrant conclusion in Peshawar, leaving behind memories of thrilling sportsmanship, rich traditions, and cultural celebration. This historic event marked the first freestyle polo festival ever held in the city, drawing massive public interest and enthusiastic participation.
The festival’s grand finale featured a highly anticipated match between longstanding rivals Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan. In an intense and competitive encounter, the Gilgit-Baltistan polo team showcased outstanding skill and discipline, securing a convincing 7–3 victory over Chitral to claim the championship title.
The final match was graced by Corps Commander Peshawar, Lieutenant General Omar Ahmed Bukhari, who attended as the special guest. Alongside the exciting polo action, spectators enjoyed a series of captivating cultural displays. A remarkable exhibition of traditional javelin throwing highlighted the region’s historic sports heritage, while the SSG Shahbaz team of the Pakistan Army impressed the crowd with breathtaking free-fall parachute jumps, earning resounding applause.
Adding further charm to the festival were traditional dances from different regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reflecting the province’s cultural diversity. Folk music and regional performances, including Chitrali dance, created a festive and colorful atmosphere throughout the event.
Thousands of spectators from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan attended the festival, underscoring its widespread popularity and cultural significance. At the closing ceremony, Lieutenant General Omar Ahmed Bukhari distributed prizes among the winning teams and players, praising the organizers for successfully hosting an event that promotes cultural heritage, encourages healthy youth engagement, and strengthens unity among different regions.
